Edmonton LRT Map & Condo Guide

Edmonton's LRT network has 3 lines, 30 stations and 37.4 km of track — with a major westward expansion underway. See where the condo neighbourhoods sit, how they connect, and why being near a station matters.

Edmonton's LRT (light rail transit) has three lines — Capital, Metro and Valley — with 30 stations, all meeting in Downtown. The most transit-connected condo areas are Downtown (Transit Score 79), McCauley (73) and Wîhkwêntôwin (68). Valley Line West, expected around 2028, will bring LRT to Wîhkwêntôwin (Oliver), 124 Street and Glenora for the first time.

Edmonton's Light Rail Transit system is North America's northernmost LRT and one of the continent's longest-running — the first line opened in 1978. Today three lines carry riders between the northeast, the university, Downtown and the southeast.

🚇 Why LRT Access Matters for Condo Buyers

  • Condos within about 500 m of an LRT station historically command a 5–10% premium over comparable units further away
  • Churchill Station connects all three lines — Downtown and Wîhkwêntôwin condos offer the best multi-line access in the city
  • Health Sciences/Jubilee and University stations put hospital and U of A workers one stop from Garneau
  • LRT access can eliminate the need for a second vehicle — a significant monthly saving
  • Tenants search by transit — LRT proximity helps investors keep units rented
  • ETS bus routes complement LRT coverage across south and northeast Edmonton

Valley Line West: What It Means for Condo Buyers

The Valley Line West extension will continue the Valley Line from Downtown west to Lewis Farms, running along 102 Avenue, Stony Plain Road and 87 Avenue — past Wîhkwêntôwin, 124 Street, Glenora, West Jasper Place, Meadowlark and West Edmonton Mall. The City of Edmonton currently expects service around 2028.

For condo buyers, that means neighbourhoods that are car-oriented today — particularly Glenora and the Stony Plain Road corridor — will gain direct LRT access for the first time. Historically, buyers who purchase before a line opens have benefited as transit access becomes part of the area's appeal.

Things to keep in mind

  • Construction brings road closures, noise and detours for several years — factor that into your timeline.
  • Units directly on the line may hear trains and crossing bells; a block or two away often gives the best of both.
  • The City's transit-oriented development plans allow more density near stations — expect new condo supply along the corridor.

Areas Gaining LRT Access

  • Wîhkwêntôwin — Valley Line stops along 102 Avenue
  • 124 Street / Westmount — Stony Plain Road stops
  • Glenora — first-ever LRT access
  • Jasper Place & Meadowlark — revitalizing west-end corridor
  • West Edmonton Mall & Lewis Farms — western terminus

Buyer Tips

Living Near the LRT: The Sweet Spot

Close enough to walk, far enough to sleep. Here's how to judge a condo's transit location.

Aim for 400–800 m

A 5–10 minute walk is where most riders draw the line — and where the price premium is strongest. Further than that and the benefit fades.

Check Noise & Vibration

Visit at rush hour. Street-running Valley Line trains are quieter than freight, but bells at crossings carry. Bedrooms facing away from the line help.

Walk the Route at Night

Walk from the building to the station after dark. Lighting, sightlines and how busy the route is matter as much as distance.

Look Up Station-Area Plans

The City plans for more housing and shops near stations. That brings amenities — and sometimes construction next door.

Bike + Transit

Old Strathcona, Ritchie and McCauley have Bike Scores in the 80s. Pair a bike with the LRT and many residents skip owning a car.

Still Want a Stall?

Even transit-first buyers should consider a titled parking stall — it's a big plus at resale, especially in winter.

Getting Around

The Pedway, Bike Lanes & Winter Commuting

Downtown Edmonton's pedway is a network of tunnels and skywalks linking office towers, shopping centres, City Hall, the Winspear and several LRT stations. For Downtown condo owners it means getting to work, the train or the shops without stepping outside on a −30°C morning.

The city's protected bike grid — including routes through Downtown, Wîhkwêntôwin and Old Strathcona — makes cycling a real year-round option for many, and the river valley trail network connects most core neighbourhoods.

For drivers, the core is well connected by Jasper Avenue, 109 Street and the river valley roads, and Anthony Henday Drive rings the suburbs.
